Despite threatening to file an injunction against Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs, the Police Social and Welfare Association has failed to make any legal moves to halt the 21st-century policing project. In a brief interview yesterday, secretary of the association Sgt Michael Seales admitted that no injunction had been filed.
"I can't say anything about that as yet...It must be a surprise," he added. The association served Gibbs with a pre-action protocol letter on March 20 and gave him two weeks to respond. Gibbs did not do so. The letter accused Gibbs of introducing working arrangements under the 21st-century initiative that were inconsistent with police service regulations and agreements.
It claimed that because of Gibbs' "unfortunate" actions, police officers' psychological, physical and private lives were being adversely affected. The injunction was drafted by Seales and president of the association, Sgt Anand Ramesar, who are both lawyers.
