A 45-year-old Valencia man was chopped about the body during an argument over a SIM card in Sangre Grande on Thursday night. Brian La Croix, of KP Lands, remained warded in critical condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital up to late yesterday.
A 21-year-old man, of Princes Town, held for questioning by police, was in custody last night. Police said around 10.45 pm, La Croix and the man got into a heated argument at Sapphire Drive, Sangre Grande. The suspect reportedly chopped La Croix several times with a cutlass. He was taken to the Sangre Grande District Hospital and later transferred to Port-of-Spain.
Cpls Bernand, Wallace, PC Ragoobar and WPC White visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
La Horquetta murder suspects held
Three murder suspects were among eight people held in La Horquetta yesterday during a police exercise. The officers also seized a Beretta pistol, 11 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 78 rounds of 9mm ammunition, an AK-47 assault rifle magazine and another used in the Galil.
The exercise, supervised by acting Senior Supt David Abraham, was carried out by Insp Williams, acting Insp Baptiste, acting Sgts Harewood, and Jerry, Cpl Crawford of the Northern Division Task Force and Tunapuna CID. A 33-year-old man; his wife, 33; and a friend were also arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
The murder suspects, held in connection with the four recent murders in the community, are expected to be put on identification parades over the weekend. Abraham said the exercise was in response to crime in La Horquetta.
