A 42-year-old Siparia man who is ac­cused of in­ter­fer­ing with a three-year-old girl was placed on $50,000 bail yes­ter­day when he ap­peared in court. Nasir Han­iff ws be­fore Siparia First Court Mag­is­trate Joanne Con­nor charged with se­ri­ous in­de­cen­cy. Han­iff, a labour­er, was ar­rest­ed by PC Naasir Gaf­far and charged with com­mit­ting an act of se­ri­ous in­de­cen­cy on the tod­dler on April 13, at his Siparia home.

He was not called up­on to plead. Po­lice Pros­e­cu­tor Sgt Drid­genath Sookraj told the court Han­iff had one pend­ing mat­ter for lar­ce­ny and a con­vic­tion for a sim­i­lar of­fence. He will reap­pear in court on May 14. The in­ci­dent was al­leged to have oc­curred around 5.30 pm last Fri­day at his Siparia home.
