The Telecommunications Authority of T&T (TATT) has told CCN TV6 it was inappropriate to air a certain programme when children were likely to be viewing. TATT's CEO Cris Seecheran responded to Kirk Waithe of Fixin' T&T by letter dated April 17. Fixin' T&T has been writing to the authority over concerns of inappropriate local programming broadcast by the television station on April 3 and 12.
Seecheran's letter to Waithe said TATT told the station that content shown in two editions of the Crime Watch programme did not serve the public interest and was not in the best interest of the families of the deceased people involved.
Seecheran said TATT reminded TV6 of its earlier letter that said: "While one may argue that the issue of 'taste' is a factor in the assessment of the 'suitability' of content aired, there is arguably a firm line that can be drawn between what may generally be considered suitable for viewing by children and that which may be considered unsuitable." TATT urged the station to ensure journalistic standards were maintained at all times and that content generally considered unsuitable for children should not be aired during periods when they are likely to be watching television. The letter added that TATT felt the footage was aired to sensationalise and increase the programme's ratings without considering the public interest or the privacy of the families and without care and attention to children who may have been watching.
