An Embacadere man was beaten and had a hangman's noose placed on his neck after allegedly sexually assaulting a ten-year-old girl. Winston Roopan, 40, was granted $120,000 bail when he appeared before acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan in the San Fernando First Court. Roopan, who was represented by attorney Shaun Tikasingh, appeared in court with bandages on his head and his right arm in a sling.
He was arrested by WPC George and charged with grievous sexual assault, serious indecency and indecent assault, which were allegedly committed between March and April, 2012 at Embacadere, San Fernando. On Wednesday Roopan was remanded into custody after Court Prosecutor attorney Ramdath Phillip objected to bail.
He said a criminal records trace on Roopan was not ready. He also indicated that arrangements were being made to have the girl, who resides in the area, moved to another address. Roopan will reappear in court on May 24.
