A police constable accused of drunken driving was yesterday granted $8,000 bail. PC Sean Legendre pleaded not guilty to the offence during his appearance before Magistrate Wendy Dougdeen-Bally in the Port-of-Spain Sixth Court. The officer, who is assigned to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), was arrested by police on Thursday night after an accident along Saddle Road in Maraval.
After arriving on the scene of the accident, PC Legendre was breathalysed and allegedly recorded a reading of 125 microgrammes of alcohol for every 100 millilitres of breath-almost four times the legal alcohol limit. He was taken to the Maraval Police Station, where he was charged by Sgt Keith Lucas.
Fines up to a maximum of $8,000 or jail terms of up to three years can be imposed on first-time offenders under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act. Legendre was represented by lawyer Ulrick Skerritt. He will reappear in court on May 9.
