Res­i­dents at a par­ty in San Fer­nan­do were forced to scam­per for their safe­ty yes­ter­day, when gun­men opened fire on a 24 year-old man, leav­ing him fight­ing for his life at hos­pi­tal. Qwe­si Sylvester, 24, of Block Five, Apart­ment Four of the Em­ba­cadere Hous­ing Set­tle­ment, was shot in the fore­head and ab­domen fol­low­ing an ar­gu­ment with four men.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, around 3.30 am, Sylvester was at a birth­day par­ty for a friend at near­by Cir­cle Dri­ve, when he and the men re­port­ed­ly got in­to a bit of "small talk," which was fol­lowed by an ar­gu­ment. Two of the men al­leged­ly whipped out their firearms. Sylvester was shot twice and the four men es­caped in­to a near­by track.

Cpl Ho­sein and of­fi­cers from the San Fer­nan­do CID re­spond­ed to res­i­dents' calls and searched the area. How­ev­er, they re­port­ed that wit­ness­es were un­will­ing to sup­ply am­ple in­for­ma­tion to move speed­i­ly with in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

The vic­tim was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where, up to late yes­ter­day, he was un­der­go­ing surgery. Search­es were made for the sus­pects who are be­lieved to be from an­oth­er area, how­ev­er po­lice were un­suc­cess­ful in their hunt.
