San Fer­nan­do mag­is­trate Ali­cia Chankar yes­ter­day or­dered that mon­ey con­fis­cat­ed from a woman sell­ing al­co­hol with­out a li­cence should be do­nat­ed to the Guardian's Need­i­est Cas­es Fund. The woman was ar­rest­ed and charged by act­ing Cpl An­tho­ny Dorset of the San Fer­nan­do City Po­lice. She was caught sell­ing beers from a cool­er at the Mara­bel­la mar­ket on Sun­day. Po­lice said they seized a cool­er with al­most two cas­es of beers and a to­tal of $195 in cash.

The woman ap­peared be­fore Chankar yes­ter­day and plead­ed guilty to sell­ing in­tox­i­cat­ing liquor with­out a li­cence. Hav­ing no pre­vi­ous or pend­ing mat­ters, she was rep­ri­mand­ed and dis­charged un­der Sec­tion 71 of the Sum­ma­ry Of­fences Act, which means no con­vic­tion will be record­ed against her. The mag­is­trate then or­dered her to do­nate the $195 to the Guardian Need­i­est Cas­es Fund, dis­pose of the liquor and re­turn the cool­er to the own­er. The fund, which was start­ed in 1934, has as­sist­ed thou­sands of less for­tu­nate fam­i­lies in its 78 years.
