One man is dead and eight oth­ers, in­clud­ing two tod­dlers, suf­fered in­juries in a two-car ac­ci­dent at Cochrane Vil­lage, Guapo, yes­ter­day. Po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tors said around 9.30 am, Eliz­a­beth Coop­er, 33, of Cross Cross­ing, San Fer­nan­do, was dri­ving her Nis­san AD wag­on east along the South­ern Main Road, near Seren­i­ty Homes, when the col­li­sion oc­curred with the car, dri­ven by Quin­sey Gill, of D'Abadie.

Po­lice said Gill's Nis­san B-15 swerved and col­lid­ed with Coop­er's AD wag­on. The cars were head­ing in op­po­site di­rec­tions. Mo­torists who wit­nessed the crash im­me­di­ate­ly rushed to help. Coop­er's fam­i­ly - Ann Marie McGilvery, of La Brea, Car­ol Noel, Ker­ry Ann Coop­er, and five-year-old Kid­i­an McGilvery, who is Ann Marie's grand­daugh­ter - all suf­fered se­ri­ous in­juries.

The oc­cu­pants of Gill's car - Timan Abra­ham, 27, of Iberia Dri­ve, D'Abadie, Dan­i­ca Danielle, 22, and her three-year-old daugh­ter Danielle - suf­fered bro­ken limbs and head in­juries. All nine in­jured peo­ple were tak­en to the Point Fortin Area Hos­pi­tal. Abra­ham died while un­der­go­ing surgery.

The oth­ers were lat­er trans­ferred to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where they are ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion. An au­top­sy will be done on Abra­ham's body to­day at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James. Cpl Di­noo, of the Point Fortin Po­lice Sta­tion, is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
