One man is dead and eight others, including two toddlers, suffered injuries in a two-car accident at Cochrane Village, Guapo, yesterday. Police investigators said around 9.30 am, Elizabeth Cooper, 33, of Cross Crossing, San Fernando, was driving her Nissan AD wagon east along the Southern Main Road, near Serenity Homes, when the collision occurred with the car, driven by Quinsey Gill, of D'Abadie.
Police said Gill's Nissan B-15 swerved and collided with Cooper's AD wagon. The cars were heading in opposite directions. Motorists who witnessed the crash immediately rushed to help. Cooper's family - Ann Marie McGilvery, of La Brea, Carol Noel, Kerry Ann Cooper, and five-year-old Kidian McGilvery, who is Ann Marie's granddaughter - all suffered serious injuries.
The occupants of Gill's car - Timan Abraham, 27, of Iberia Drive, D'Abadie, Danica Danielle, 22, and her three-year-old daughter Danielle - suffered broken limbs and head injuries. All nine injured people were taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital. Abraham died while undergoing surgery.
The others were later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where they are warded in a stable condition. An autopsy will be done on Abraham's body today at the Forensic Science Centre, St James. Cpl Dinoo, of the Point Fortin Police Station, is investigating.
