In order to pave the way for a fresh upcoming election, the council of the law association invited nominees to withdraw their nominations. Last Friday, the association's president, Dana Seetahal, along with 17 members of the council offered their resignations to its members, in acknowledgement of their collective responsibility for the administration of the association's finances.
A longstanding member of the legal fraternity revealed that this was necessary to accommodate fair elections in light of the current probe into the association's financial state of affairs. It was also revealed that an official report would be made to the police some time this week, at which time the Fraud Squad would undertake the investigation into the missing funds.
