Homicide officers are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man at McCarthy Street Extension, Cantaro Village, Santa Cruz, on Sunday night. Kelvin Belcon died after he was felled by a hail of bullets. His death brought this year's murder toll to 132. Reports state around 10.15 pm, Belcon was liming with a friend, Kelvin Beddoe, 22, when a white car drove up to them. Two men got out and opened fire on them. The men then jumped back into the waiting car and escaped. Belcon died on the spot while Beddoe was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, for treatment. Meanwhile, another man was shot by a lone gunman on Sunday night at Pineview Gardens, Mohammed Trace, St Augustine. A report said around 7 pm, Shawn Thompson, 26, was with several friends when a man, who was unknown to him, called out. Residents reported hearing several loud explosions and Thompson collapsed on the ground. He was shot three times in the upper body, police said. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he remains warded. Sgt Samuel, PC Weeks and WPC Boyd visited the scene. PC Weeks, of the St Joseph Police Station, is investigating.
Curepe man stabbed in head
Kumar Rampersad, 26, was stabbed yesterday at his Rapsey Street apartment, Curepe, and remains warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope. Police said around 1 am, Rampersad arrived home and found a man inside. A struggle ensued and Rampersad was stabbed in his head with a knife. Detectives said the knife blade broke and remained lodged in his skull. He was rushed to hospital where he is listed in a stable but critical condition.
El Socorro accident claims one
An El Socorro resident was killed on Sunday night after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway, near his Chootoo Lane home. Amrit Basdeo, 57, died on the spot, police said. A report stated around 8.30 pm, a white Nissan Wingroad, which was proceeding west, collided with Basdeo on reaching Chootoo Lane. The road fatality figure now stands at 37 for the year. San Juan Police are continuing investigations.
