Police believe that the $2 million robbery of international shipping company Seaboard Marine Trinidad Ltd may be an inside job. No one, however, has been arrested but investigators are working on the theory that the thieves may have had prior knowledge of the internal operations of the company's office.
According to reports, the suspects entered Seaboard Marine at the Port of Point Lisas around 1 am on Monday and stole $25,000, a laptop and fixtures valued at $15,000, along with cheques estimated at $1.8 million. Investigators said, however, the suspects would not be able to cash the cheques without the proper identification required, as they were all made payable to the company.
Police said when senior officials of the company reported to work on Monday, they found that the secured area where the cash and cheques were stored was opened without any signs of a break-in. A party of officers, including PC Gordon and Cpl Radaykissoon, of the Couva CID, visited the scene. Investigations are continuing.
