A Beetham man arrested during Tuesday's protest at Harpe Place, Port-of-Spain pleaded not guilty to resisting arrest and using annoying language when he appeared in court on Friday. Jonathon Moore, 29, of Basilon Street, Laventille, was not called upon to plead to a third charge of assaulting three police officers during the incident.
Moore appeared before Magistrate Christine Charles in the Port-of-Spain Fifth Magistrates' Court. He was charged by Cpl Charles Budrie of the Besson Street station. The magistrate heard that around 4 pm on May 15, Moore assaulted PCs Matthew Ramirez, Joseph Gomez and Yohann Sealey as he resisted arrest and used annoying language during the protest.
Indicating to Charles his intention to secure a lawyer before the next adjourned date, Moore who had been granted station bail on Tuesday, requested copies of the station diary extracts for his intended attorney. Moore will reappear on June 28.
