Police exercises in Port-of-Spain and the Northern Division over the weekend resulted in 12 people being arrested and one kilo of marijuana being recovered along with one gun and a quantity of ammunition. Between 2 am and 6 am yesterday, an exercise co-ordinated by ACP Terry Young in the Maloney area, led to eight people being arrested after they were held with one kilo of marijuana. Officers, including Insp Seecharan and Cpl Mascall, also raided several homes. From 7 pm on Saturday and midday on Sunday, a combined anti-crime exercise by members of the Defence Force, the IATF, CID, GEB and the National Security Operational Centre went to the Nelson Street, Mango Rose and Beverly Hills areas. Four people were arrested in connection with shootings in Port-of-Spain and Laventille. During the exercise, which included detailed searches of the HDC apartment buildings, officers recovered 18 rounds of 5.56 ammunition and ten rounds of 9 mm ammunition hidden inside an electrical box at one of the buildings at Mango Rose. Acting on information, IATF head, Snr Supt Carlton Alleyne and Major Singh of the Defence Force went to an abandoned house at Beverly Hills and recovered one 12-gauge pump action shotgun, along with ten 12-gauge cartridges and 61 rounds of 7.62 ammunition.
