Security cameras and crash barriers are among the measures in a massive road safety campaign, the Ministry of Transport has announced. In a release yesterday, Transport Minister Devant Maharaj repeated his warning that a motor vehicle is a potential weapon in the hands of motorists.
"If not handled with due care and attention, it can cause injury or death to passengers," he said. The ministry's announcement and warning came shortly after the fatal crash yesterday morning in which four people died. Justice Wendell Kagaloo, acting Chief Justice, who was in a vehicle involved in the crash, is in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
Commenting on the accident, Maharaj urged drivers to exercise utmost care and attention on the nation's roads. He said he intends to approach Cabinet to release funding for a massive road safety campaign to reduce the carnage on the nation's roadways.
