Legislators will debate a private motion seeking the establishment of tangible memorials for and contributions of former Presidents and Prime Ministers. Debate on the motion, brought by Independent Senator Corinne Baptiste-McKnight, is expected to resume when the Senate meets at 1.30 pm today. The motion is also seeking the establishment of a state-funded arrangement that allows for the contributions of all who served in the two offices to be recognised.
There are several questions listed for oral reply, including one from Opposition Senator Fitzgerald Hinds. He wants to know whether Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's sister, Vidwatie Newton, is employed as her personal assistant at the official residence and/or the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann's. Hinds also wants to know if Newton was employed as a "live-in" personal assistant at the Gopauls' home in Tunapuna while Persad-Bissessar was staying there.
