An Arima construction worker who was kidnapped yesterday morning from his home and managed to escape his abductors by crashing the car said he knew he was being forced to drive to his own death. The 30-year old, who requested that his name not be published, said he was awakened around 5.15 am yesterday by a man calling his name.
He said as he opened the front door, a gun was placed to his head and two suspects forced him into his car and ordered him to drive to a location at Toco where he expected to be killed. The man said quick thinking led him to crash the car on the Toco Road, causing the abductors to leave him and the car as they believed he was severely injured. The man later made his way to the Santa Rosa Police Post and reported the matter.
The T&T Guardian learnt that the kidnapping took place after the man warned certain people in the village to stop running through his yard. The father of a seven-year old boy and four-year old girl said while he was fearful that his family was now in danger, he had been living in the area for the past 30 years. Arrangements are being made to relocate family members.
