A magistrate has questioned whether a foreigner who is a witness will be able to tolerate the heat in the San Fernando Magistrates' Court to give evidence in the preliminary inquiry into the murder of Daniel Guerra. Deputy Chief Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan raised this concern after Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul said a foreign expert witness would testify in the case.
"You think he could manage giving evidence in this heat without fainting?" Rambachan asked. Honore-Paul, however, said the witness had come to Trinidad previously. She did not reveal his name or where he would be coming from. However, she said the prosecution would need about two weeks to make the necessary arrangements to have him here.
Senior Counsel Sophia Chote, who is representing accused police Cpl Darwin Ghouralal, asked that she get all disclosure a week before the expert gives evidence. Daniel, eight, went missing after visiting a parlour near his Bedeau Street, Gasparillo home on February 18, 2011. Days later his body was found floating in a river in Tarouba. The matter was adjourned to Friday.
