Thieves grabbed a payroll with approximately $30,000, belonging to Ancillary Contractors of Rousillac, south Trinidad, on Thursday evening. Two armed men also robbed the contractor, Gaya Kissoon and six of his employees of cellphones, cash and jewelry valued at more than $20,000.
According to a report, around 12.30 pm, Kissoon, 65, and his employees were at their business place when two armed men entered and announced a hold-up. Kissoon was robbed of the payroll, two cellphones, one valued at $3,000, and the other $300. Police are also continuing investigations into reports that Low Cost Supermarket of Munroe Road, Cunupia, was also robbed of more than $500,000 in cash and cigarettes.
Deon Ali, 37, who manages the retail outlet, told the police he secured the premises on May 29 and when he returned to work on Thursday, discovered the supermarket broken into. He said the thieves smashed a hole in the wall to enter the premises and stole a vault, which contained $470,000, plus cigarettes valued $30,000.
Rex Car Limited, of Charlieville, was also broken into over the Indian Arrival holiday. Winston Rampersad, 53, said he secured the building around 5.30 pm on May 29. When he returned on Thursday, he discovered the office and vault broken into. Computers valued $24,000 were also stolen. He said the vault contained TT$30,000 and US$2,000 Police are continuing investigations into the robberies.
