A Point Fortin pensioner was killed mere metres away from her home yesterday morning, when she was knocked down by a shuttle used to transport Petrotrin employees. Reports stated that 77-year-old Julia Joseph of 2 Main Road, New Lands, died while receiving medical attention at the San Fernando General Hospital. She sustained injuries to the head and internal bleeding.
Police said that around 6.15 am, Joseph was walking along the main road and while attempting to cross the road she was knocked down by the oncoming vehicle. The impact caused the woman's body to pitch a few feet away. She was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital and was later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after midday.
A press release from Head of Publications and Production at Petrotrin, David Coker, stated that the company extends its sincerest condolences to the relatives and friends of Joseph. He said that senior officials of the company have contacted Joseph's relatives and have offered all the necessary support. The driver of the vehicle was up to late yesterday assisting police with investigations. Cpl Phagoo of the Point Fortin Police Station is investigating.
