A Point Fortin pen­sion­er was killed mere me­tres away from her home yes­ter­day morn­ing, when she was knocked down by a shut­tle used to trans­port Petrotrin em­ploy­ees. Re­ports stat­ed that 77-year-old Ju­lia Joseph of 2 Main Road, New Lands, died while re­ceiv­ing med­ical at­ten­tion at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. She sus­tained in­juries to the head and in­ter­nal bleed­ing.

Po­lice said that around 6.15 am, Joseph was walk­ing along the main road and while at­tempt­ing to cross the road she was knocked down by the on­com­ing ve­hi­cle. The im­pact caused the woman's body to pitch a few feet away. She was tak­en to the Point Fortin Area Hos­pi­tal and was lat­er trans­ferred to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. She suc­cumbed to her in­juries short­ly af­ter mid­day.

A press re­lease from Head of Pub­li­ca­tions and Pro­duc­tion at Petrotrin, David Cok­er, stat­ed that the com­pa­ny ex­tends its sin­cer­est con­do­lences to the rel­a­tives and friends of Joseph. He said that se­nior of­fi­cials of the com­pa­ny have con­tact­ed Joseph's rel­a­tives and have of­fered all the nec­es­sary sup­port. The dri­ver of the ve­hi­cle was up to late yes­ter­day as­sist­ing po­lice with in­ves­ti­ga­tions. Cpl Pha­goo of the Point Fortin Po­lice Sta­tion is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
