The Chaguanas Borough Corporation is starting to crackdown on businessmen who are illegally occupying parts of Endeavor Road and Chan Ramlal Road. Chaguanas mayor Orlando Nagessar said yesterday the borough has started reclaiming lands at Ramsaran Street. He said businessmen had blocked parts of Ramsaran Street and had erected signs and even paved the roadway for parking purposes.
The mayor said the borough recently surveyed the area and started building pavements and drains as part of the initial plan to expand Ramsaran Street into a boulevard. Nagessar said with traffic congestion growing in the busy central borough he had no alternative but to impose harsh measures.
Mayor Nagessar said some businessmen have gone as far as using Chan Ramlal Road as a private car park. He said after the surveys are completed, the illegal car parks would be demolished. Nagessar said a roundabout was planned at the western end of Endeavour Road in a bid to ease the traffic flowing from Caroni Savannah Road to Lange Park.
