Two weeks after he was critically injured in a car crash which claimed the lives of four people, Appeal Court Judge Wendell Kangaloo's condition is improving gradually. In a telephone interview yesterday, court protocol and information manager, Jones P Madeira, however, said he was still in a comatose state. "I am advised that his doctors are gradually reducing his medication and he is responding well to treatment. His vital signs are stable," Madeira added.
Kangaloo, 56, of Westmoorings, is warded at the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He was flown to the US within days of the crash and is receiving specialist treatment. Before leaving Trinidad, Kangaloo was said to be suffering from swelling of the brain as a result of injuries to the head. Around 5.30 am on May 20, a Honda Civic crashed into Kangaloo's Toyota Prado SUV after crossing the median near Orange Grove Savannah Road, Trincity, on the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway. The four occupants - Ryan Ramtahal, 25, of Industry Lane, Belmont; Jeremy Soyer, 24, of St James; Jovaughn Spencer, 22, of Braithwaite Street, Belmont; and Megan Richards of Bagatelle Road, Diego Martin - died on the spot.
