A sum­mons has been is­sued for a rel­a­tive of Ja­son Lord to ap­pear in court on a charge of as­sault­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer at the San Juan sta­tion last week. Lord, 29, of Laven­tille Road, San Juan, was found hang­ing by his belt in­side the po­lice cell af­ter 11 am on Thurs­day. Video sur­veil­lance showed Lord knelt and prayed be­fore he took his life.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said Lord was at the sta­tion the week be­fore with a pri­or mat­ter where he was ow­ing a man $4,000 but re­paid $3,000 for a small plot of land and a house. Po­lice said while Lord vis­it­ed the sta­tion, he was in­formed that there was an out­stand­ing war­rant for his ar­rest for the non-pay­ment of $32,000 in child main­te­nance.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said while Lord was at the sta­tion, he was served by a war­rants of­fi­cer. Soon af­ter, he was found hang­ing in his cell. Rel­a­tives who lat­er vis­it­ed the sta­tion al­leged­ly slapped an of­fi­cer and ripped his shirt dur­ing a fra­cas. Po­lice claimed Lord was searched and checked sev­er­al times while in cus­tody, ac­cord­ing to the Stand­ing Or­ders which is every half-hour but this was re­duced to every 15 min­utes in his case. Po­lice look at leads in slay­ing of Grande cou­ple

De­tec­tives prob­ing the deaths of a San­gre Grande roti-vend­ing cou­ple are look­ing at sev­er­al pos­si­ble mo­tives for the killings. Ger­ald Jones and his com­mon-law wife Ann David were ab­duct­ed and killed some­time be­tween Thurs­day af­ter­noon and Fri­day. Jones, 47, and David, 44, both of Bark­er Trace, Coalmine, San­gre Grande, were found stabbed and chopped about the body.

Po­lice said around 2 pm, a farmer dis­cov­ered the bod­ies at Sec­ond Caigual in Man­zanil­la. In­ves­ti­ga­tors said they re­ceived sev­er­al pos­si­ble mo­tives and were pur­su­ing leads. David op­er­at­ed a roti shop at Ojoe Road and Jones was em­ployed with the Min­istry of Food Pro­duc­tion and Ma­rine Af­fairs.
