Trinidad and To­ba­go-born Cana­di­an Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment Hedy Fry has spo­ken glow­ing­ly of this coun­try in the Cana­di­an Par­lia­ment. Fry paid trib­ute to T&T on the ob­ser­vance of its Gold­en Ju­bilee on Au­gust 31 this year. She told leg­is­la­tors in Cana­da that T&T had a rich cul­tur­al di­ver­si­ty, "spawn­ing renowned au­thors and No­bel lau­re­ates Vidya Naipaul and po­et Derek Wal­cott." Wal­cott is a St Lu­cian but has lived in T&T where many of his plays and po­ems were writ­ten and per­formed. She al­so said T&T cre­at­ed ca­lyp­so mu­sic, lim­bo and the on­ly new mu­si­cal in­stru­ment of the 20th cen­tu­ry-the steel pan.
