A po­lice of­fi­cer with 19 years' ser­vice yes­ter­day ap­peared in court charged with fraud. PC Cur­tis Brown was not called up­on to plead when he ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Mar­cia Mur­ray in the Port-of-Spain First Court. The court heard that be­tween May 16 and May 24 at Port-of-Spain, Brown, 47, who is joint­ly charged with Wynette Bram­ble, 35, con­spired to de­fraud Brent Smith and Naris­sa Con­nel­ly of $350,000 by pre­tend­ing to be the own­ers of a prop­er­ty of­fered for sale.

Bram­ble was al­so charged with steal­ing $16,300 from Joan­na Richard­son and $8,200 from Dei­ja Adams on April 18 at Plum Rose Av­enue, San­ta Rosa Heights, Ari­ma; and de­fraud­ing Brent Smith and Naris­sa Con­nel­ly of $10,000 on May 20, by pre­tend­ing to be the own­er of a par­cel of land at Roys­to­nia, Cou­va.

Bram­ble was al­so joint­ly charged with Sean Nicombe with pos­ses­sion of mar­i­jua­na for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing. The court heard that on June 4, Bram­ble and Nicombe were held less than 500 me­tres away from a school on Tem­ple Street, Aranguez with the drugs in a bag. Bram­ble plead­ed not guilty while Nicombe plead­ed guilty to the of­fence.

Mur­ray re­mand­ed Bram­ble in cus­tody af­ter learn­ing that he al­leged­ly com­mit­ted the of­fences while out on bail for eight sim­i­lar of­fences in San Fer­nan­do. Trans­fer­ring the mat­ters from the Ari­ma Mag­is­trates' Court on June 13, Mur­ray or­dered that Bram­ble and Brown reap­pear on Ju­ly 6 in the Port-of-Spain First Mag­is­trate's Court when a date for the case would be de­ter­mined.

Brown, who was rep­re­sent­ed at­tor­ney Dar­ril Giles, was al­lowed to con­tin­ue on $250,000 bail.
