PM’s constituency to get world-class sporting complex
The constituency of Siparia is getting a world-class sporting complex. Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, the MP for the area, announced this as she officially launched the MP’s Windball Night Cricket Tournament at the Clarke Rochard Recreational Ground, Penal, on Saturday night.
Persad Bissessar said work on 15 acres of land at Clarke Road would begin by the end of the year, while other grounds in the area will be improved. She thanked Sport Minister Anil Roberts, who was at the event, along with other ministers, for delivering to the people.
“I want to thank you and other members of government for delivering, not just in Tobago, Cedros, Toco, Diego Martin or Port-of-Spain, but also for delivering in Siparia and Penal. I want to thank you very much,” she said. It was the first of two trips the Prime Minister made to her district over the weekend.
Heavily-armed police officers were stationed outside the Namdevco farmers’ market in Debe, located next to the Highway Re-route Movement’s protest camp. Among those attending the event were Planning Minister Dr BhoeTewarie, Minister of Trade Stephen Cadiz and Food Production Minister Vasant Bharath.
The Prime Minister inspected the 16 teams taking part in the competition, after which Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine took first strike in the opening match between Persad Bissessar’s Siparia team and Sports Minister Anil Roberts’ La Horquetta/ Talparo, the defending champions.
