A 37-year-old tradesman was stabbed to death by a relative on Sunday night during an argument over a card game. Police said around 11.30 pm, Kerry Lashley, of Enterprise, Chaguanas, was playing cards with friends and relatives at his brother's home, Goodwood Road, Chaguanas. Reports said during the game, Lashley put his boots on the table and his fellow players objected. After a heated argument, Lashley left the house and returned about five minutes later with a cutlass. His brother, Nesta Mitchell, 31, intervened and tried to disarm Lashley and quell the disturbance.
Eyewitnesses told investigators Lashley tried to chop Mitchell. A woman intervened. The woman, in her late 20s, also of Enterprise, reportedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Lashley several times. She ran off, leaving the weapon behind. A team of police from the Chaguanas CID, led by Inspector Wayne Lawrence, arrived several minutes later and took Lashley to the Chaguanas Health Facility. Doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Police searched the Enterprise area for the suspect but she remained at large up to late yesterday. The murder toll for the year stood at 178 up to late yesterday. Supt Johnny Abraham, Cpls Forgenie and Jacob visited the scene. Sgt Maharaj, of the Region Two Homicide Bureau of Investigations, is probing Lashley's murder.
