Motorcyclist killed in crash near home
The road fatality toll rose to 82 after a 27-year-old Cunupia motorcyclist was killed. According to reports, around 10.45 pm Hansraj Singh, of Roberts Street, Warrenville, Cunupia, was riding his bike on the Southern Main Road near his home when he lost control.
Singh and his motorcycle slammed into a utility pole. He died on impact. Police said he was decapitated and dismembered in the accident. His body and severed limbs were taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James where an autopsy was performed yesterday morning.
Singh’s death was the second road fatality to occur on Thursday. About 12 hours earlier, Defence Force Private Robert John, 25, of Allamanda Drive, Gasparillo, was killed in a similar accident in Arima. At the time of the accident, John was riding his motorcycle along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway near Demerara Road, Arima. John was assigned to the First Engineering Battalion, which is based at the T&T Regiment’s Camp Cumuto base.
