Police are investigating the death of a Point Fortin woman who collapsed and died during a spiritual ritual at a Princes Town temple. Reports stated that 69-year-old Theresa Lewis, of Parry Lands, Guapo Village went to the San Francis Spiritual Temple at Manahambre Road, Princes Town to undergo a spiritual cleansing.

Around 6.45 am, the woman complained of feeling dizzy while participating in the ritual and immediately fell to the ground. She was taken to the Princes Town Health Centre, where despite attempts to revive her, she died around 10.15 am. The body was later taken to the mortuary at the San Fernando General Hospital.

Police have not ruled out foul play in the woman’s death but are awaiting the results of an autopsy listed for Monday. According to relatives, Lewis was a member of the Baptist faith and had gone to the temple to “mourn.” They said that when someone “mourns,” they abstain from eating and sometimes, a person’s blood pressure may increase which can cause health problems.
