Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the death of a Point Fortin woman who col­lapsed and died dur­ing a spir­i­tu­al rit­u­al at a Princes Town tem­ple. Re­ports stat­ed that 69-year-old There­sa Lewis, of Par­ry Lands, Guapo Vil­lage went to the San Fran­cis Spir­i­tu­al Tem­ple at Man­a­ham­bre Road, Princes Town to un­der­go a spir­i­tu­al cleans­ing.

Around 6.45 am, the woman com­plained of feel­ing dizzy while par­tic­i­pat­ing in the rit­u­al and im­me­di­ate­ly fell to the ground. She was tak­en to the Princes Town Health Cen­tre, where de­spite at­tempts to re­vive her, she died around 10.15 am. The body was lat­er tak­en to the mor­tu­ary at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.

Po­lice have not ruled out foul play in the woman's death but are await­ing the re­sults of an au­top­sy list­ed for Mon­day. Ac­cord­ing to rel­a­tives, Lewis was a mem­ber of the Bap­tist faith and had gone to the tem­ple to "mourn." They said that when some­one "mourns," they ab­stain from eat­ing and some­times, a per­son's blood pres­sure may in­crease which can cause health prob­lems.
