A father's role as a caregiver and equal partner in parenting is often overlooked. Fathers, like mothers, are human beings capable of love, affection, care and nurturing. This, according to the non-profit organisation Random Acts of Good Deeds (RAGD). RAGD was founded in 2010 by Nikita Mohansingh for children to serve children as a vehicle for improving quality of life through community projects.
To raise awareness about fathers and fatherhood, children wrote "Random Love Letters to Dad" which were distributed at Price Plaza, Chaguanas, yesterday. Mohansingh said the project was done to raise the consciousness of fatherhood and to celebrate fathers in T&T. The letters were written by children in the organisation, mentors and invited participants.
Mohansingh said a similar initiative was done for Mother's Day last month when letters were given to mothers along the East-West Corridor. A statement from the organisation stated, "Our organisation aims to engender a sense of good citizenship, responsibility, compassion and respect in its young members, adding value to their lives by guiding them to adopt universal values and male good life choices." Mohansingh said close to 300 letters were expected to be distributed by approaching a male and asking him whether he was a father.
