Cyclist killed in road mishap
A 37-year-old cyclist was killed in an accident near his home in Wallerfield on Sunday morning. Police said Marvin Romeo, of Pram Road, Wallerfield, was riding south along Demerara Road around 11 am when on reaching the intersection with the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway he crashed into an oncoming car. Romeo was thrown several feet into the air. He landed on the bonnet of the car.
He was taken to the Arima Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver was later questioned by investigators from the Arima Police Station. The driver, of Sangre Grande, reportedly told police that Romeo ignored the traffic lights and rode his bicycle into oncoming traffic. According to statistics from the Highway Patrol and Traffic Branch the road fatality toll up to late yesterday stood at 84.
