Three po­lice of­fi­cers re­mained ward­ed in hos­pi­tal yes­ter­day af­ter be­ing se­ri­ous­ly in­jured in a car crash in Ch­agua­nas on Sun­day af­ter­noon. Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, around 3 pm the of­fi­cers were trans­port­ing a pris­on­er in an un­marked ve­hi­cle along Rail­way Road, Ch­agua­nas. As they reached the Ch­agua­nas Mag­is­trates' Court, a blue BMW, trav­el­ling west along Ram­saran Street, re­port­ed­ly broke a traf­fic light and col­lid­ed with the po­lice ve­hi­cle.

The of­fi­cers - PC Dabreau, Phillips and po­lice pho­tog­ra­ph­er Cpl Rawl­ins Bar­clay - were in­jured. The pris­on­er, who was seat­ed in the back of the ve­hi­cle, al­so suf­fered se­ri­ous head in­juries.

They were tak­en to the Ch­agua­nas Health Fa­cil­i­ty and then trans­ferred to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope. Up to late yes­ter­day, they re­mained ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion. The dri­ver of the BMW es­caped un­hurt. Af­ter the ac­ci­dent, both ve­hi­cles were towed and im­pound­ed at the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice Sta­tion. The dri­ver of the BMW was ques­tioned for sev­er­al hours and was lat­er re­leased af­ter giv­ing a writ­ten state­ment, po­lice said.

A po­lice source close to the in­ves­ti­ga­tion said yes­ter­day that in­ves­ti­ga­tors were con­sid­er­ing charg­ing the dri­ver with dan­ger­ous dri­ving and dri­ving with­out due care and at­ten­tion. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
