San Fernando mayor Marlene Coudray’s last hope of finding her daughter alive has been shattered. The mayor’s worst nightmare was realised yesterday when forensic experts confirmed the corpse found in a burnt- out sugar cane field on Barnett Estate, Montego Bay, Jamaica, was that of her missing daughter Michelle Coudray-Greaves.

Forensic tests on dental records, retrieved from the corpse, which Coudray had positively identified, confirmed it belonged to the missing Trinidadian schoolteacher. Forensic experts were able to positively match the dental braces with dental records obtained from her Trinidadian orthodontist, which Coudray took with her to Jamaica last week.

Deputy Superintendent of the Jamaican Constabulary Communication Network, Steve Brown, confirmed the findings, in a telephone interview yesterday. Brown also said based on this new information, the police will now commence an investigation into a case of suspected abduction and a formal homicide investigation.

The taxi driver, in whose vehicle Coudray-Greaves, 39, was last seen entering on June 2, remains in police custody as they intensify their investigation. A post-mortem conducted on the remains last week proved inconclusive. Brown said investigators have sought the assistance of a second pathologist, who will work closely with the first pathologist, to carry out further examination. Coudray is expected to return to Trinidad tomorrow with her son-in-law, Jamaican Sean Greaves, and her daughter’s remains.
