A teenag­er was shot dead near his home in Mor­vant yes­ter­day. Po­lice said David Cabr­era, 19, of Red Hill Ex­ten­sion, Mor­vant, around 11.45 am told rel­a­tives that he was go­ing to a near­by shop to pur­chase food to cook for lunch. Mo­ments af­ter leav­ing home, rel­a­tives heard a vol­ley of gun­shots com­ing from out­side their home.

They re­spond­ed and found Cabr­era ly­ing on the road­way with gun­shot wounds to the up­per body. He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal by his un­cle Kurt Mil­let. Cabr­era was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival by doc­tors at the hos­pi­tal. His body was or­dered re­moved to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre in St James where a post-mortem is ex­pect­ed to be per­formed to­day.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said al­though they had no mo­tive for the killing, they knew Cabr­era quite well. His killing took the mur­der toll to 189. There were 182 mur­ders for the cor­re­spond­ing pe­ri­od last year. In­spec­tor Ram­lo­gan, Sgt Boodoo and of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force vis­it­ed the scene of the shoot­ing and are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
