A blow to the head is what killed Michelle Coudray-Greaves, 39, the Trinidadian teacher who went missing in Jamaica on June 2. A second autopsy performed on the body yesterday revealed death was due to injuries to the right side of the head, inflicted by a blunt instrument. Coudray-Greaves was the elder daughter of San Fernando mayor Marlene Coudray. Deputy Superintendent of the Jamaican Constabulary Communication Network, Steve Brown, in a release confirmed the findings of the second autopsy, which was done yesterday. He said homicide investigations were continuing into the death of Coudray-Greaves, whose burnt body was discovered by farmers in a canefield in Montego Bay on June 11.
The body of the mother of three was identified by dental records which were supplied by Coudray. A taxi driver, whose car Coudray-Greaves was last seen entering, is the only person of interest in custody at this time, Brown confirmed. The body was released to the Coudray family around 11 am yesterday, after which the first of two funeral services and a cremation was held at the St James Memorial Chapel, Dovecot. News editor of the Gleaner newspaper, Adrian Frater, said Coudray spoke at the service which was attended by friends and relatives of her deceased daughter. "What happened to my daughter is not a reflection on Jamaica. It could have happened anywhere else," she told the congregation, which included T&T High Commissioner Dr Iva Gloudon and Coudray-Greaves' father Mervyn Coudray. Frater said the mayor was pleased with the Jamaican hospitality extended to her and now understood why her daughter was so in love with Jamaica.
The service was conducted by Pastor Marc Mullings, who is also a police officer. Frater said Mullings also presented Coudray with the urn containing the ashes of her daughter, who was earlier cremated at the chapel. Coudray and other relatives who flew in for the service left Jamaica shortly after and were expected to arrive at Piarco Airport at around 11 pm last night. A second funeral will take place at 2 pm tomorrow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, Harris Promenade, San Fernando. Afterwards the ashes will be interred at the Paradise Cemetery, San Fernando. The Prime Minister and members of her Cabinet are expected to attend.
