The re­cent ap­point­ment of Su­san Fran­cois as di­rec­tor of the Fi­nan­cial In­tel­li­gence Unit of T&T has had pos­i­tive re­sults at the Fi­nan­cial Ac­tion Task Force ple­nary meet­ing tak­ing place in Rome, Italy. The June 25 re­port of the FATF on T&T says: "Since Feb­ru­ary 2012, Trinidad and To­ba­go has demon­strat­ed progress in im­prov­ing its AML (An­ti Mon­ey Laun­der­ing)/CFT (Counter Ter­ror­ism Fi­nanc­ing) regime." FATF added T&T's im­proved re­view was achieved fol­low­ing Fran­cois' per­ma­nent ap­point­ment to the post of di­rec­tor of FIU. As a di­rect con­se­quence, the FATF said it "will con­duct an on-site-vis­it to con­firm that the process of im­ple­ment­ing the re­quired re­forms and ac­tions is un­der­way to ad­dress de­fi­cien­cies pre­vi­ous­ly iden­ti­fied by the FATF."
