Chaguanas man before court on fraud charge
A Chaguanas man was yesterday remanded in custody by a Port-of-Spain magistrate to next Monday when he will appear before a central magistrate charged with fraud. Larry Tiwarie, 31, of Longdenville, was not called upon to plead when he appeared before magistrate Marcia Murray in the Port-of-Spain First Court. Tiwarie is charged with attempting to cash a cheque in the amount of $458,737 between June 20 and June 25, at the First Citizens Bank, Chaguanas. He is accused of attempting to obtain the amount by way of a cheque authorised by the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation pretending that it was a good and valid order to issue him the money. Tiwarie was arrested on Monday and after investigations by the Fraud Squad was charged yesterday by Sgt Damien Thomas. Declining to set bail yesterday, Murray adjourned the matter to July 2 transferring it to the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court.
