Ch­agua­nas May­or Or­lan­do Nages­sar has mount­ed an ag­gres­sive 24-hour cam­paign to wreck cars parked il­le­gal­ly in the bor­ough. Speak­ing with the T&T Guardian on Thurs­day, Nages­sar said he is fed up with law­less­ness in the busy cen­tral town and wants Jack Warn­er, the new Min­ster of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty, to help clean up the bor­ough.

Nages­sar said busi­ness­men and used-car deal­ers are the worst of­fend­ers. The may­or said he had re­ceived nu­mer­ous com­plaints from burgess­es about used-car deal­ers block­ing road­ways and us­ing the road­side to wash cars, which con­tributes to con­ges­tion.

Nages­sar said the bor­ough had at­tempt­ed to talk with the car deal­ers and re­quest­ed a meet­ing with sev­er­al of them. How­ev­er, he said, one deal­er ripped up the in­vi­ta­tion and "tossed it in the face of the bor­ough cor­po­ra­tion of­fi­cial." Nages­sar said "We have a new sher­iff in town (re­fer­ring to Warn­er) and we want him to help us to clean up the place. We have to get rid of the drunk dri­vers, the drug deal­ers and crim­i­nals.

"Both the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice, un­der Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Du­lalchan, and the bor­ough po­lice, un­der In­spec­tor Oc­tave Lewis, are lend­ing their sup­port. We have start­ed wreck­ing on a 24-hour ba­sis. We are fed up of beg­ging these law­break­ers. "We have to take a hard stance to end law­less­ness in this coun­try, and Warn­er is the man to do it. We ful­ly sup­port him. "Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Min­is­ter Ram­bachan has al­so giv­en us his full sup­port in this mat­ter."
