The Holy Cross College past students association is working towards making the organisation a very dynamic one and has embarked on a number of strategies to this end. They have been encouraging the classes from different years to have regular meetings and reunions similar to what is being done by the class of 1963.
Since leaving Holy Cross, Arima, 45 years ago, the class of 1963 has been meeting regularly, holding reunions and keeping in touch with one another. In fact, there exists a spiritual bond amongst them, said Keith Denalli, a former Arima mayor and past student. In 1965, the class was promoted from Form 3 to Form 5 in a school experiment for exceptional students and was called 5X. The guys started calling themselves the X Men and still call themselves so up to today.
The group also attends a monthly meeting, which will be held today at the home of Claudius Ramdeen in Palmiste. Recently, one of their classmates, Dave Lalla, who resides in New Jersey, and was back home to celebrate the life of his aunt, Vivienne, took the opportunity to celebrate his 60th birthday with some of the guys at Ameerali Avenue, Arima.
Next year, January 19, the X Men will be celebrating their 50th anniversary of attending Holy Cross with a grand, formal affair. At this function they are hoping to have all their past surviving teachers, who include Central Bank Governor Ewart Williams and Jerry Hospedales.
