A 55-year-old Cunu­pia farmer died on Mon­day af­ter he was stung by a swarm of bees. A re­port said around 2 pm, Sun­dar Per­sad, of Ram­goolie Trace, Chin Chin Road, Cunu­pia, left home in his trac­tor to plough a piece of land a short dis­tance away at Munga­loo Road. Sev­er­al hours lat­er, Per­sad's wife re­port­ed re­ceiv­ing a phone call from her hus­band. He told her he had been at­tacked by a swarm of bees.

His wife along with sev­er­al of his rel­a­tives went to the plot of land and found Per­sad un­con­scious. Both Per­sad and his trac­tor were cov­ered by the bees, po­lice said. Of­fi­cials from the Api­aries Unit of the Min­istry of Food Pro­duc­tion were con­tact­ed to as­sist in spray­ing the swarm of bees. Po­lice said Per­sad's body bore hun­dreds of bee stings.

He was pro­nounced dead on the scene by a Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer (DMO). In­ves­ti­ga­tors be­lieve that Per­sad's trac­tor might have come in­to con­tact with the bee hive while dri­ving through the prop­er­ty.
