Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar's de­ci­sion to ap­point for­mer banker Lar­ry Howai as Min­is­ter of Fi­nance and the Econ­o­my has struck a pos­i­tive chord with cit­i­zens, ac­cord­ing to the re­sults of a Nac­ta poll. But Vas­ant Bharath should not have been moved from the Min­istry of Food Pro­duc­tion to Trade and In­dus­try.

There has been wide­spread sup­port for the ap­point­ment of Jack Warn­er as Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter, how­ev­er. Cit­ing Howai's ap­point­ment, re­spon­dents were al­so of the view that more in­di­vid­u­als from the pri­vate sec­tor should be ap­proached to join the Cab­i­net to make the Gov­ern­ment more ef­fec­tive.

While there was agree­ment on the Prime Min­is­ter's de­ci­sion to re­con­fig­ure the Cab­i­net, strong dis­ap­proval reigned about sev­er­al of her min­is­te­r­i­al choic­es. The size of the Cab­i­net re­mains an un­com­fort­able is­sue. Mean­while, the tac­tics used by Warn­er to re­move mem­bers of the High­way Re-route Move­ment from the group's camp­site has been de­scribed as high-hand­ed and un­der­scored the need for more mean­ing­ful di­a­logue in the fu­ture.

When asked about the court's de­ci­sion to dis­miss the case against for­mer prime min­is­ter Bas­deo Pan­day on his fail­ure to dis­close in­for­ma­tion re­gard­ing a Lon­don bank ac­count to the In­tegri­ty Com­mis­sion, re­spon­dents ex­pressed re­lief that the mat­ter was now closed.
