A Gonzales woman on bail for alleged fraud has been remanded in custody. Sapphira Joseph, 23, of Gonzales, was unrepresented when she appeared before magistrate Marcia Murray in the Port-of-Spain First Court to answer 23 counts of fraud.

It is alleged that on April 11, May 5, May 7 and July 7 at locations in Port-of-Spain, Westmoorings, Curepe and Chaguanas, she presented false driving permits in the names of Simone Besson and Chenelle Jackson, and also defrauded several businesses of $ 81,420 worth of sneakers, electronic equipment, car tyres, accessories and jewelry. The magistrate advised Joseph of her right to apply to a judge in chambers for bail.
