"Let's just wait and see." Diego Martin North/East MP Colm Imbert said so yesterday in response to the appointment of new Central Bank Governor Jwala Rambarran. Imbert said he was quite surprised to learn of the appointment. He said 45-year-old Rambarran was relatively unknown and lacked significant management experience.
He added that while youth was important, age and experience also had their place. Imbert said he was unaware that Rambarran had any extensive experience managing an institution the size of Central Bank. He said, "The little that I have been able to determine is that he is more of a researcher and an academic."
Imbert spoke in a telephone interview yesterday. He said executive chairman of CIBC First Caribbean International Bank and former independent senator Michael Mansoor would have done an excellent job. Imbert said Mansoor was a senior and accomplished banker with top level management expertise. Efforts to reach Mansoor proved futile.
