Not only would the new west Port-of-Spain traffic plan reduce traffic congestion but it would lessen the emission from vehicles and therefore create a cleaner environment, said Port-of-Spain Mayor Louis Lee Sing. And judging from the decrease in traffic congestion yesterday, Lee Sing said he believed “we did the right thing. “By and large, we could remain optimistic we have done the right thing” he added. Lee Sing said heavy traffic also resulted in loss of productivity, causing “frustration and distress.”

Saying he did his own survey from 6 am yesterday, Lee Sing said the consensus was support for the proposal. He added: “I had people telling me their travelling times were drastically reduced by as much as 45 minutes and they said the plan was fantastic.
“Others, however, drove past and shouted the plan was rubbish. I didn’t get a chance to chat with them.”
