Former government senator Verna St Rose-Greaves has moved on, after being removed as Minister of Gender Affairs last month. St Rose-Greaves will soon appear as the host of a new show on Gayelle The Channel and has openly stated that she is not interested in another government job.
After St Rose-Greaves was axed in the June 22 Cabinet reshuffle, several groups questioned the reason for her removal and the prospect of another top-level position with the Government. After last week's official opening of Parliament, the Prime Minister was asked by reporters about the calls relating to St Rose-Greaves.
The PM, who noted that St Rose-Greaves had said she wasn't willing to serve in the Government after her removal, did not close the door on the former minister. Persad-Bissessar said if the social worker was interested in serving, there could be discussion on it. She said she was confident new Gender Affairs Minister Marlene Coudray, a former mayor of San Fernando, would be able to carry on the portfolio.
Yesterday, however, St Rose-Greaves emphasised her rejection of any government portfolio. "No, no, no, no and no. I've moved on and I am transitioning. We have to continue the work on the ground," St Rose-Greaves said. "I'm now on Gayelle with a show called Tottots. I'm talking to the people and I'll continue to be doing so. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback wherever I go.
"But I would always be willing to talk, if the Prime Minister calls me at a personal level or in the context of her well-being at a personal level. "But not in the context of party politics or anything else, I don't want anything to do with politics." Last Wednesday, the PM also said the offer of a diplomatic posting for former national security minister John Sandy was still being explored. Sandy has remained silent on whether he will accept the proposal, said to be at a Geneva location.
