Late yesterday, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar issued a statement in which she said that she was "deeply saddened at the passing of my former Government and Parliamentary colleague of many years, Mr Kelvin Ramnath." The Prime Minister described Ramnath as an extremely "lively and forthright political figure," with significant history dating back to 1976 when he first entered the House of Representatives, and even further as an advocate for equality and social justice for workers.
She lauded his service in government as Minister of Energy following the 1986 election noted that even then he was "unafraid of standing for what he believed in and for what he represented." Also remembering Ramnath was National Security Minister Jack Warner, who said that T&T was much poorer as a result of his passing.
Warner recalled Ramnath's "passion to ensure that justice is guaranteed for all in Trinidad and Tobago," and said he was "driven by the passion of equality for all and represented the antithesis of an unfair society."
