While hundreds of limers visited the multiple bars and restaurants in Woodbrook on Saturday night, an anti-crime exercise in the area netted a group of car thieves who allegedly target the area's patrons. The group of car thieves was arrested near Arapita Avenue by officers of the Port-of-Spain CID who were led by ASP Ajith Persad.
The men, who are said to be in their 20's, are expected to participate in identification parades later today before they are charged with vehicular larceny offences. As part of the exercise, the lawmen issued 25 fixed-penalty traffic tickets, while they also issued oral warnings to several other delinquent drivers. Three male "cross-dressers," who were under surveillance for suspected prostitution, were also arrested along French Street. They were later charged with loitering.
A man was also arrested after a search of his wallet revealed several counterfeit United States $100 bills. Investigators later alerted bar and restaurant owners of the fraudulent money which is sometimes accepted locally as payment for goods.
