The body of a 50-year-old fisherman was recovered yesterday after he disappeared at sea during an expedition on Sunday. Police reports say that around 10 am, fishermen off the coast of Blanchisseuse saw the body of a man floating several miles from shore. The fishermen tied the body with a piece of rope, pulled it ashore and contacted police. The body was later identified as Ronald Elie, of La Fillette Village, Blanchisseuse.
Investigators said the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition but bore no signs of violence. An autopsy is expected to be performed at the Forensic Science Centre in St James today. Elie reportedly left home on Sunday morning for a fishing trip. Police believe he encountered choppy waters which threw him overboard.
His pirogue was recovered by fellow fishermen on Monday morning. Several searches for his body earlier this week were unsuccessful. ASP?Mahabir visited the scene and is investigating.
