A 30-year-old truck driver was shot dead yesterday afternoon as he changed a tyre in Carapo, Arima. According to police around 3.25 pm, Marvin Auguste, of Mantis Lane, La Horquetta, was standing in front of a tyre shop at the corner of Kelly Trace and O’Meara Road South, Carapo, when he was approached by a gunman. The man reportedly drew a pistol and shot Auguste three times in the head before escaping through a nearby track.

Homicide detectives, who visited the scene, said Auguste did not have a criminal record and was not known to them. Police are yet to establish a motive for the murder. A female relative, who wished to remain unidentified, said he intended to marry later this year and was saving money to build a house. The murder toll stood at 236 up to late yesterday evening. Superintendent Garth Nelson, Insp Wayne Baptise and Sgt Ganga Singh are investigating.
