Ricardo Daniel, who was reported as having been kidnapped on Tuesday night, has been released. His release followed a police operation in Laventille on Thursday night in which two people who reportedly demanded a ransom were arrested. Daniel was found wandering in Lopinot Village, Arouca by investigators late Thursday night. He told them his abductors did not harm him.
According to police reports, around 10 pm on Thursday, officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) led by Cpl Sunil Bharath went to Snake Valley, Laventille and arrested a 34-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both of whom are CEPEP employees. The couple was reportedly found in possession of a cellphone which police said was used to make the ransom call to Daniel's parents.
On Tuesday night, his parents received a call saying he had been kidnapped. Police sources said the caller demanded a $500,000 ransom for Daniel's safe release. No ransom was paid. Daniel's father owns an auto body shop on Old St Joseph Road in Laventille. Police found Daniel's car abandoned at 11th Street, Barataria, later that night.
While under interrogation by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad after being arrested on Wednesday night, the suspects told police where Daniel was being held. Up to late yesterday, the suspects remained in custody. ASP Stephen Grant is continuing investigations.
